Cherry Poppin’ Daddies / Slicked Up 9’s – Sellersville Theater – Sellersville, PA – 1/11/18

Starting the year off right, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies made their third return to Sellersville Theater in Sellersville, PA.  Joining them again was Bethlehem, PA’s Slicked Up 9’s.  Making this year 20 years of great music, Slick Up 9’s got the crowd moving with their swing and jump blues.  Slicked Up 9’s performed original songs, most notable “Go Ahead”, and covers to give new comer fans some songs to sing to.  However, knowing their songs or not, Slicked Up 9’s play infectious music to have anyone and everyone dancing up front or in their seat.

Continuing the night with singing and dancing was the energetic Cherry Poppin’ Daddies.  Performing for almost 30 years, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies have covered almost all music genres.  For most listeners they only know their swing songs like “Zoot Suit Riot”, and make no mistake they perform a good amount of those songs, but Cherry Poppin’ Daddies also dabble in funk, ska, 20’s music and even Rat Pack songs.  This group can do it all and with band leader Steve Perry’s constant dancing and warm vocals, it makes them unstoppable.  With about 8 full lengths under their belt, the Daddies have it down to a science as to what songs to play while playing a little something from each album for a hour and a half.  The show had more of an emphasis on swing music than their other material, but songs from  The Boop-A-Doo and Please Return The Evening helped change the setlist around.  Steve Perry also mentioned that they are continuing recording their newest album and will be coming out in due time.  He also mentioned that they are going back to their roots, but will also sound much different yet nothing too out there.  Hopefully we will see a release in 2018, but if not, 2019 will be 30 years of Cherry Poppin’ Daddies and a new album isn’t a bad way to celebrate.
