Seven years after their reunion album There Are Rules, the Get Up Kids finally released new material on a four track e.p. entitled Kicker on Polyvinyl Records. The four songs were a return to form sort a speak where the energy of their earlier albums are clearly present, but it still had hints of moving forward like There Are Rules did. A short taste of what is to come from The Get Up Kids on future releases which would make fans excited for this new chapter of the band’s career. For the promotion of this album the band embarked on a cross country tour to all the major cities. The Philadelphia date featured Ageist and Racquet Club. Ageist, which features members of Thursday and The Hold Steady, played a flawless energetic set while Racquet Club, which features members of The Jealous Sound and Knapsack, could easily fit in with its previous bands and what drew in the audience members. The Get Up Kids however were hands down the best out of three and the best they have ever been. The long time off and introduction of new music has brought new life into the Get Up Kids. A band known for their inner turmoil throughout the years, watching them now, one would think there was never any disdain between members. The crowd pleasing songs were of course played, but the newer songs proved that the Get Up Kids will keep moving on and putting out some the best material yet to come.
