Abandoned Pennhurst State School And Hospital – Spring City, PA – 7/14/18

The infamous Pennhurst State School and Hospital, what can be said about this renowned institution that hasn’t been said.  Books have been written about it, movies have been produced about it, countless documentaries, music, and of course the talks of if turning the institution into a haunted attraction was the best way to preserve the history.  The last part is a heated debate among everyone that wishes to preserve the history of Pennhurst, but I won’t spend too much time on that part since you can research that for days online and come to your own conclusions.

This wasn’t my first time on the grounds of Pennhurst, the first time can be seen here.  The first time I visited, I only had a few hours and was only allowed to visit two buildings.  This time around I was given a lot of access to the grounds and had about 6 hours to photograph.  Not much has change surrounding the grounds, except more Halloween type props for the attractions.  Which in a way is a good thing since it seems like the money coming in is helping preserve the property, but it was nice to revisit with the longer length of time.

As I said above, there is so much that can be said about Pennhurst, the history itself is intriguing to familiarize yourself with.  Also it is interesting to compare how healthcare was handled then and quite frankly how it isn’t all too different now.  Putting into words my own take on the history will just add to the countless others resources that do a better job of it.  Pick up on the books on Pennhurst or do some online researching, there is so much information out there on this institution that we should all be glad it is still around to visit in person.  To me it is nice when history is physically still around to actually see and feel, it puts things into more perspective.  With that, if you feel like you want to know more about the history of Pennhurst or photograph the grounds yourself, click the link below to see that they offer more than just a haunted attraction.  If not, look below at the photos I took and expect more to come hopefully later this year.
