Westbound Train – World Cafe Live – Philadelphia, PA – 11/16/13

It’s been a while since I’ve been in Philadelphia for a concert.  About a month, but either way it was nice to be back in the city of Brotherly Love at a great venue and seeing a great band.  Westbound Train made their first stop of three shows at World Café Live.  A great venue that serves up great food and concerts.

The last time I saw Westbound Train was actually at the same venue about a year ago.  This would be my third time seeing them and to say each performance is amazing is an understatement.  Westbound Train brings the ska, soul, rock steady, and rock n roll to their live performance.  These groups of musicians are not to be messed with when it comes to playing music for their music is just prefect in my eyes. Bands like this always make me wonder, “Why aren’t they bigger?”

The show at World Café Live was flawless.  If there was a mistake, I didn’t hear it.  Playing a great mix of songs from their four albums, but sadly I didn’t hear “I Feel Fine”, Westbound Train had the crowd dancing from beginning till end.  Some people didn’t stop dancing until the band left the stage!  I will say it was a pleasure hearing their rendition of Sam Cooke’s “Cupid”.  Always a treat to hear a band cover his music.  If you don’t know who Sam Cooke is, you need to do some homework.

Towards the end of their set, Obi mentioned that Westbound Train have been recording and preparing to release a new album.  Of course this was met with a loud cheer from the audience, for it’s been awhile since we heard some new Westbound Train material.  I only hope this means there will be more shows in the New Year.  If so, make sure you check out this band live, words can’t describe how fast you will fall in love with their music.
