The Avett Brothers / Langhorne Slim – Musikfest – Bethlehem, PA – 8/14/16

With the pending thunderstorms and the delay start at the main stage, Musikfest escaped the possibility of cancelling a main stage act due to rain.  It would’ve been tragic, especially for it being the closing night.  However, luck intervened.

It could have been the start of Langhorne Slim’s set that helped stop the thunderstorms.  The first song performed for the night featured Langhorne Slim, Scott Avett, and Seth Avett, together they sang “You Are My Sunshine”.  A great way to start the night and wish the rain away.  From there on Langhorne was left alone on stage singing soulfully.  In fact, he was exactly alone, by the third song he asked that the crowd come forward.  He felt it didn’t make sense for everyone to sit during the opening act.  From there it was Langhorne spewing emotion and stomping his boots with crowd not too far away.  Langhorne is a native to the Philadelphia area and hopefully he isn’t a stranger now and considers playing some more shows in the area soon.

The final act at 2016 Musikfeat was none other than The Avett Brothers.  With a 22 song set, The Avett Brothers put on a electrifying concert.  The Avett Brothers and company throw a party on stage.  A party that can’t help one not want to get up and dance around.  From their cover of Bob Dylan’s “Tangled Up In Blue” to “I And Love and You”, The Avett Brothers played until the fireworks lit up the sky.  That’s how Musikfest should end with a fire in the sky and on stage.
