When the summer rolls around there are few things to look forward to. Beach, sun, pool, vacation, and Stoked For The Summer in Asbury Park. This day long concert, which is coordinated by the Bouncing Souls, is the highlight show of the summer and possibly the year. The Bouncing Souls always headline, but its always the openers everyone is anxious to see. The Souls have been around for 30 years and through those years they have made tons of friends and they are also known as the friendliest band in the scene. It makes sense why each year has a different line up for their friend list is as long as a CVS coupon sheet, and sometimes the line up consists of bands that haven’t played for some time or aren’t even touring. Bouncing Souls have a great reputation and it shows when they send the call out for openers. For this Stoked For The Summer date Tim Barry of Avail opened the show acoustically. Following him was Midwesterns’ The Smoking Popes and then Jersey’s Titus Andronicus. The highlight of the day was Against Me! who stole the show and of course the Bouncing Souls closed out the night. No matter what, by the time the Bouncing Souls take the stage the Stone Pony Summer Stage is packed with friends and fans. Even though the Souls weren’t huge with Mtv hits, their positivity in the scene is infectious and it truly shows for these Jersey heroes every year at Stoked For The Summer.
