Voodoo Threauxdown featuring Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue / Galactic / Preservation Hall Jazz Band / New Breed Brass Band – Musikfest – Bethlehem, PA – 8/2/18

Bethlehem, PA was transformed into New Orleans, LA during Musikfest’s opening night on August 2nd and for those that have never visited New Orleans or Bourbon Street, the Voodoo Threauxdown tour filled in that gap.  The tour, which is headlined by Trombone Shorty featured Galactic, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, New Breed Brass Band, and with special guests Cyril Neville & Walter “Wolfman” Washington.  Each group brought their own favor of New Orleans Jazz.  While groups like New Breed Brass Band and Preservation Hall Jazz Band were mainly instrumental, it didn’t stop the crowd from getting up and dancing as if they were on the streets of the French Quarter watching the street bands and parades go by.  As for Galactic and Trombone Shorty, both groups exploded on stage with their jazz and funk sound and just like Preservation Hall Jazz Band and New Breed Brass Band, had an extraordinary stage presence .  It was if a bomb went off in Bethlehem and it was a beautiful sounding bomb filled with green, purple, and yellow colors.  New Orleans has a very unique feel and atmosphere, one where you need to witness it yourself, however, not everyone can take the trip down to the Big Easy.  Yet Trombone Shorty and company made everyone feel like they did go to NOLA for just one night and it was a memorable night.
